Why online sports betting is taking over the industry

What a year it has been for the New Jersey sports betting market. After launching in May of 2018, the rise of online sports betting has been an incredible one. January saw a grand continuation of this trend, with a total of $540 million in wagers, slightly down by 3.2% from last December. Still, compared to January of last year, we saw a 40% increase. This marks the third straight month where the Keystone state has generated over half a billion in bets.

The primary source of this gross handle has been lying in the revenue stream coming from online bets. Nearly 90 percent of the total amount came through online sources, mostly using mobile devices. It’s a premise that predicts beautiful things for the future of sports betting, as New Jersey leads the front of the pack and is truly becoming the trendsetter for the rest of the United States.

What can we expect in the future from the New Jersey sports betting industry? And what does it mean for us? Find out more, right here at Betting Guide NJ!

Record after record

It all started in the last quarter of 2019 when New Jersey reported a sports betting handle of $562,6 million, the first time the state broke the half-billion mark. The month after, incredibly, this number was kept steady at an astonishing handle of $557.8 million.

Clearly, this meant a breakthrough in the ranking of states which currently allow sports betting. Nevada was still at the top, but it was looking like the top spot for 2020 was ripe for the taking by the Garden State.

January saw precisely that, with $540 million in wagers in one month, a feat that was never seen in January by Nevada, it seems as though New Jersey is the king of sports betting. The division of the revenue amongst online sportsbooks in the state is one that we usually see. The majority of the cash goes to the two largest online bookmakers, namely Meadowlands and Resort Digital.

Mainly, what has contributed to these impressive numbers is the rise in the number of online sportsbooks and their quality. Around this time last year, eight online sportsbooks were open for business; currently, that number has doubled, with 17 online bookmakers operational in the state.

Besides this outpour of availability, the online sportsbooks decided to tackle the mainstream media as a vessel for their marketing purposes. You might have noticed the dramatic increase in tv- and radio-commercials for online sportsbooks!

What will happen next?

Clearly, the online betting market in New Jersey sees no signs of stopping yet. With the numbers for the Super Bowl coming soon and decisions around the country favoring the Garden State, it looks like an easy bet who will be on top at the end of the year.

From an online perspective, Nevada is leaps and bounds behind, mainly relying on their offline betting handle to keep them up. The popularity of the Las Vegas casinos and their excellent reputation for providing a world-class service for sports bettors will be hard to beat. Still, New Jersey’s superior online platforms will prevail in the end.

Pennsylvania, our neighboring state, has seen a similar growth in both their online casino and online sports betting market, but won’t top out New Jersey due to the nature of why Pennsylvania decided to allow online sports betting. The Keystone State decided to implement a much higher tax structure for online casinos and sports wagering than New Jersey.

Pennsylvania has a different philosophy toward its gaming industry, with a state official recently calling casino gaming “a means to an end” — with the end goal being property tax relief. The states share a border, but they are worlds apart on gaming.

Under different market conditions, Pennsylvania’s online gambling market could beat New Jersey’s, but that won’t be happening — at least not anytime soon.

In September, Pennsylvania, online casinos generated $4.1 mm in revenue, and the online/mobile sportsbooks generated $9.2 mm. People like Chris Christie scoff at those numbers.

To be fair, Pennsylvania’s online gambling market is much younger, with online/mobile sports betting beginning in May and iCasino kicking off in mid-July.

What does it mean for New Jersey’s sports betting future?

Well, with the increase in revenue comes a larger budget for the casinos and bookmakers to attract guests. Not only will in-state citizens be tempted to join some of the fun, but out-of-state bettors could be joining in as well, expanding the amount of tourism that our state will be getting.

Hopefully, this tourism will become sustainable, leading to a better economy and benefits for all kinds of tourist attractions and, eventually, the citizens of New Jersey.

But for the local bettor out there, this also means better promotions and odds popping up on your online sportsbook, seeing that there is a bigger budget to do these things. New Jersey made a great move by being the first state to legalize online gambling, and as we now see, it only gets better.

6 Effective Tips for Filling Out Your March Madness Bracket

Here’s how to get the best out of your bracket

It’s that time of the year again. College basketball fans are filling their March Madness brackets and hoping for a win. However, many of them are going to end up with disappointing results.

It’s no secret that filling out a winning NCAA bracket is hard, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t try. With some expert advice, you might find the odds being in your favor this time around.

Many have dissected NCAA tournaments for decades in hopes of finding a winning bracket formula. Unfortunately, no one is yet to discover a secret winning formula. Nonetheless, we can dip into past results and come up with some great strategies that will work wonders.

There are several strategies and tips for filling out your March Madness bracket. I am going to share some of them with you below. I understand that you might have your preferred strategy, but these tips are great to keep in mind. Let’s get started!

1.  Be cautious with No. 1 seeds

One of the top things to do when filling your bracket is choosing the final four. When doing this, it might be tempting to send all the No. 1 seeds to the final four. After all, they are among the best teams in the tournament. However, you should be cautious with these top seed teams.

Since seeding began in 1979, there have been rare occasions when all the No. 1 seeds made it to the penultimate round. In fact, this has only happened once in 2008. So, don’t be tempted to go chalk on your bracket; chances are odds won’t be in your favor.

2.  Don’t forget to include upsets

There is one big reason why the NCAA Tournament is referred to as March Madness — upsets. For me at least, they are the best and most exciting part of college hoops.

The modern tournament comprising 64 teams has been around since 1985. In 28 of those tournaments, there have been between 10 to 16 upsets where a lower-ranked team beat a higher ranked team (with at least two or more seeds). So, if you are looking to create a great bracket, I would advise you to include a few upsets.

That being said, you don’t want to go crazy when choosing your upsets, even if that’s the spirit of March Madness. Too many or poorly chosen upsets will only leave your bracket limping in the early rounds of the tournament.

So, one of my best tips for filling out your March Madness bracket is to be strategic and pick teams with your mind. For example, it would be a bad idea to choose No. 16 over No. 1 seed upset; it has happened only once in 2018 UMBC vs. Virginia. 15-2 upsets are also rare, and thus choosing is only likely to spoil your bracket.

So, which are the best upsets to choose from? The 12 seeds vs. 5 seeds upsets are amongst the most popular and with good reason. Since 1985, there have been 50 such upsets in the first round of the tournament, a 35.7% chance of occurring.

Nevertheless, despite being popular, 12-5 upsets are not the only ones you should consider. In fact, there are other matchups that can give you a much better chance. For example, 11-6 upsets have occurred 52 times (37.1%) with 10-7 upsets having the highest occurrence at 55 times (39.3%). I would advise you to consider all these matchups for a better chance of picking winning upsets.

3.  Pick top teams for the final round and national champion

I have talked about the drawbacks of picking all No. 1 seeds for the Final Round. So, does this mean that you can choose any team? The answer is a resounding no! While having only No. 1 seeds in the final round is a bad idea, so is having a lower-seeded team, or even failing to pick a No. 1 seed.

Another thing to consider, Final Round picks are the key to a winning bracket; no one has ever won one without the right picks. So, how do you pick them correctly? Well, I would start by recommending that you pick at least one or more No. 1 seeded team.

In the last 34 tournaments, No. 1 seeds have only failed to make it to the top-four 2 times. On the other hand, there have been one No. 1 seed in 15 tournaments, and two No. 1 seeds in 13 tournaments. On top of that, 18 out of 26 of the last tournament champions have been No. 1 seeds.

So, when making your pick for the Final Four, I would recommend two No. 1, seeded teams. The rest two should come from other favorite top-seeded teams, with the best option being to limit No. 1 to No. 4 seeds.

4.  Go with statistics, not your gut

Basketball, baseball, football…we always talk about this when talking about sports betting. March Madness is the hardest sporting event in the world to predict. For example, the 2018 No. 16 vs. No. 1 upsets, 2011 No. 11 vs. No. 8 final face-off, or the 1985 No. 8 championship wins were almost impossible to predict. Therefore, picking a winning bracket is almost pure luck.

Unfortunately, when luck comes into play, many people start picking teams based on their gut feeling, or their favorites. While there is no sure-fire strategy for filling a March Madness bracket, I wouldn’t advise you to do so based on your gut or heart.

Instead, I would encourage you to look at statistics. Filling a bracket based on statistics gives you a much better chance of winning. It takes feelings and blind betting out of the equation, leaving you with realistic picks.

5.  Research extensively

Research! Research! Research! That’s what sports betting is all about. With 68 teams battling it out in a single-elimination tournament, research is even more important.

So, before you start filling out your bracket, sit down and do your homework. Read our other articles. Also, watch college basketball experts as they dissect the tournament. Be sure to also look at how various teams performed in the conference tournament and the regular season.

On top of that, it is a good idea to keep up-to-date with the happenings of the various teams. Coach and player changes are a huge insight that can help you make correct picks.

6.  Consider early exits

Now, I have talked about being strategic with upsets and avoiding betting on low vs. top-seeded teams. However, you also watch out for possible early exits and include them in your bracket.

In the last 26 tournaments, a top-seeded team (1-4) has lost in the first round 23 times. In 14 of these tournaments, these major upsets have occurred at least twice. A No. 2 or 3 seeded team has fallen out of the March Madness in either first or second round, since 2005 (except for 2009).

The trick, however, is picking the right team for the honor of early exit. Only thing is, this is a daunting task. For example, very few people could have bet on UMBC vs Virginia upset in 2018.

So, how do you pick these upsets? This is where research comes into play. Look for top-seeded teams that have weaknesses and take them into account. For example, the injury of key players. It is also an excellent idea to look at the strengths of lower-seeded teams. For example, UMBC had made key changes in their technical bench and team line-up in the years preceding their historical win.

Looking to avoid another bracket bust in the upcoming NCAA tournament? This is the dream of every college hoops fan. However, it is a task that has proven to be daunting over the years. Luckily, the above are some of the top tips for filling out your March Madness bracket. With these tips, you can increase your chances of creating a perfect bracket.

NCAA March Madness FAQs

  • My March Madness Bracket has bust! What now?

So your bracket has busted? Don't worry; this is a common reality that most betters have to come to terms within every NCAA tournament. However, you can still make money from the tournament. There are several other betting opportunities, such as betting on single games with point spreads, Over/Under on the combined score, futures bets, and props bets.
  • What are my chances of getting a perfect bracket?

1 in 9.2 quintillions. In other words, it is almost impossible to choose a completely perfect bracket, and it has never happened. The record-breaking March Madness bracket stands at 49 correct games. So, instead of focusing on just the bracket, it is a good idea to mix it with single games bets.
  • How much does seeding affect the outcome of March Madness matches?

Performance is the main criteria used for seeding in the NCAA tournament. Therefore, the higher a team’s seed, the better the chance of winning. However, that being said, March Madness is full of upsets. Therefore, as much as seeding is important when filing your bracket, it is also good to consider other factors such as prior performance, team line ups, etc.

This is How Sports Betting Odds are Calculated

You Need to Know How Sports Betting Odds Are Calculated — Here’s How

A gamble is often filled with uncertainty as well as different probabilities. Winning is never guaranteed. I for one, learned this the hard way when I got into sports betting without having any clue about how odds work.

To become a successful sports bettor, you need to know which bets offer the most value for your money. Even better, try to have a solid grasp of odds and how they are calculated. Before we get to the challenging parts, you need to know exactly what odds are and what role they play in every sporting event.

What are odds?

Odds in sports refer to the likelihood of a particular outcome happening or not. For example, the odds that you will have a better understanding of calculating sports odds after reading this piece is high — or least I hope so! Typically, most odds are expressed in numerical values such as numbers, decimals, or fractions.

What are odds used for?

Generally, odds come down to two purposes. The first plausible cause is to gauge the probability of the occurrence of an event. The higher the probability, the lower the odds, and vice versa. For example, a team like Liverpool currently at the top of the league would have a higher chance of winning when playing against a relegated team like Norwich City. Therefore, a wager on Liverpool winning would have very low odds as compared to those set by Norwich winning.

On the other hand, odds can also be used to determine the payouts of winning wagers. The higher your odds of winning, the more likely that your profits will be higher. The more money you put up means bigger payouts. But nothing is a sure thing. Things can go sideways, and you could lose instead of win.

  • No matter your skill level, never bet more than you can afford to lose.

To find out how odds are calculated, you must first understand the different odd formats that are used.

Common odds formats

The expressions used in odd formats require very basic mathematical knowledge and a little bit of statistics in their operations. They are basically three types:

1.  American odds

These are also referred to as Moneyline odds and are the most common in the United States. American odds describe how much money you will need to wager in order to make a certain profit. The format is mostly used by bookmakers in sports with low scores such as baseball, hockey, boxing, and so much more. These odds also focus on the winner irrespective of the spread.

The most commonly used amount when thinking about odds is $100. However, I would personally not stake that much money if I’m not confident of my chances of winning. Go read some of our betting guides before you start wagering higher amounts.

So how do I read money line odds? The odds are either expressed in positive numbers or negatives.

For example, in a match between Los Angeles Dodgers (+130) and Green Bay Packers (-145), if I were to stake $145 on the Green Bay Packers, I would win $100. The negative sign mostly describes the team with the more likely chance of winning.

On the other hand, if I stake $100 on the Los Angeles Dodgers to win, I would earn $130. Suppose I staked only $10 on the same team, I would get a return of $23 minus the original $10 stake – which would amount to $13 as profit.

2.  Decimal odds

Decimal Odds are more prevalent in countries like Europe, Canada, Australia, as well as part of their colonies in different countries. These are the easiest to understand, especially when dealing with a combination of multiple bets. The standard form of expressing decimal odds is usually a single positive number written up to two decimal places.

For example, in a match between Manchester United (1.5) versus Arsenal (2.3) indicates that the underdog here is Arsenal. Therefore, the likelihood of Arsenal winning the match is pretty slim – hence the high odds.

If I were to stake $100 on Manchester United, I would get back my stake of $100 plus $50 as profit. On the other hand, if I was to place my cards on Arsenal winning the match with the same stake of $100, I would get back my stake plus a profit of $130.

In simple terms, the wager output is derived from multiplying the stake amount by the decimal odds. If there are multiple matches playing at the same time, the total odds would be a cross product of the individual odds.

3.  Fractional odds

Fractional odds were most common with countries in the United Kingdom but slowly became phased out with the introduction of decimal odds. Unlike decimal odds, this format mostly focuses on the profits you can make and are displayed in fraction form. To calculate the total wager output, you would have to add your original stake amount.

From your basic math knowledge, you should know there are three types of fractions: proper, improper, and mixed fractions. However, fractional odds only deal with the first two i.e., 4/11, 5/7, 9/3, 14/5, and so on. So, how do you read fractional odds?

4/11 can be read as “four to eleven,” while 9/3 can be read as “nine to three.” These simply mean that you can win 4 units for every 11 units takes in the case of 4/11. Moreover, 9/3 also means that you can win 9 units for every 3 units staked. Note that this could also be simplified to 3/1 hence the possibility of winning thrice for every unit staked.

Proper fractions (when the first number is smaller than the second) are the equivalent to negative Moneyline odds. These are usually teams with the more likely chance of winning and are described as “odds on” odds.

On the other hand, improper fractions such as 3/1 are the equivalent of positive money line odds. They are usually described as “odds against” odds, usually for the underdog team. While it is possible to convert odd formats into the other types, it’s a tedious process with a lot of calculations that I wouldn’t recommend.

Odds versus point spreads

So far, we have been dealing with known teams with a reputation of either winning or losing. However, there are some games where the outcomes are unprecedented. These are usually found mostly in casino betting or dice games.

In a way, point spreads the probabilities of either team winning will have bettors betting equal amounts of money on each team. Normal odds such as money lines, decimals, and fractions are tailored to separate the underdogs from the superior teams.

The bookmaker infringes on the odds on the inferior team so as to cover any potential losses. On the other hand, if the underdog team wins, he knows to collect his profit from the many wagers placed on the favorite team.

Other types of odds are the pari-mutuel odds that are mostly dependent on the market. Different bettors place their bets, which in turn tilts the odds. Sports such as horse racing, dog racing, and harness racing are a few examples of where these odds are mostly used.

The House always wins

Bettors are not the only ones set on making a profit as the bookmakers always get some small percentage regardless of which team wins – after all, it is a business. So how do bookmakers calculate their profit margins?

No matter which platform you are using, odds don’t usually reflect the true outcome. In any case, even if you win, the money you should have gotten if the booker hadn’t cut his profits should have been higher.

They do this by increasing the implied probability of an outcome. This, in turn, decreases the odds displayed to you. I normally use the Pinnacle margin calculator to figure out the bookmaker’s profits.

Now that you’re an expert on reading and calculating your potential payout from sports odds, it’s time to find some favorable matches. Do your research and be informed, or leave the work to the experts and check our guides and recommended sportsbook reviews.

Betting Odds FAQ

  • What is a push?

In the likelihood of two evenly matched teams going head to head, the possibility of a tie/draw is very high. This is what constitutes a push. You are less likely to meet with a push when using the Moneyline format. It is most common with decimal odds, and it's something you can bet on. In the event that a tie occurs, you will get your stake back.
  • What information is used to calculate odds?

Bookmakers look at two main things when putting out their odds. These are 1) the probability of the outcome and 2) how many people are betting on each bet. Bookmakers have to adjust their odds according to how many people bet on each bet in order to balance their books.
  • Why do different platforms have different odds?

With the countless online betting platforms in the market, you will often hear some bettors preferring one platform over the other. The reason they give is usually along the lines of “This site has better odds.” That said, how do bookies arrive at odds such as +130, 1.5, or 3/7?

The simple answer is most platforms have their own team of expert risk analysts, odd compilers, and traders who come up with the figures. They mostly assess the different variables for all sporting events such as the player’s form, injuries, influence by fans, and many more.

Coronavirus and online betting — a match made in heaven?

Heavyweight Boxing

Over the past 5 years, heavyweight boxing has been creeping back into the public eye. Pundits will say “Heavyweight boxing is back” and we welcome it.

There is something about watching 2 big men lacing up the gloves and swinging at each other for 12 rounds. Betting online with boxing can excite fans because you don’t know if or when a knock out will come. In heavyweight boxing, knockouts are a must.

Here we will talk through the top heavyweights and the best type of bets to place on them. We will tell you about their styles, and the best bets to make to win. So let’s start with our very own heavyweight here in America and give you the best online betting strategies and tips.

The Types of Boxing Bets Online

There are lots of different bets you can make in boxing. Some of these bets are;

  • Money line
  • Over and Under
  • Winning Method
  • Winning Round
  • Live Betting
  • Winning Group of Rounds

Those are the types of bets you can make, but you need to look into the type of boxers you’re looking to make your online bets on. Here are some main boxers you’ll come across in the heavyweight division.

Deontay “The Bronze Bomber,” Wilder

Deontay Wilder is one of the most devastating punchers in the division. His record speaks for itself, with 43-0-1 with 41 knockouts. He has the highest knockout percentage of all time. His fighting style is very simplistic. Some pundits call him a “one-trick pony” but that one trick has got him 41 knockouts.

The right hand is his biggest weapon. If that right-hand lands, then it’s light outs for his opponent. When he fights lower-level fighters, he gets knockouts in the early rounds. When he fights the more elite-level fighters, his knockouts come in the later rounds.

Strategies for Online Betting on Deontay Wilder

The logical bet to make on Wilder is to bet on a knockout. He’s so likely to get a knockout that the odds aren’t too great for these types of bets. Wilder has only been 12 rounds two times in his whole career. As such, he’s very unlikely to go 12 rounds, this makes odds the high for him to go the distance and win. Round betting on Wilder is hard because he holds power for the whole fight. But it’s a good idea to pick earlier rounds because he knocks out most of his opponents early.

Tyson “The Gypsy King,” Fury

Tyson Fury was named after the legend Mike Tyson. Fury’s fighting style is slick for a heavyweight boxer. Fury holds the lineal status after he defeated Wladimir Klitschko back in 2015. He is not known for his knockouts, and some pundits say fury has “Pillow Fist”. But that is some sort of myth because fury doesn’t plant his feet when he punches.

He prefers to slip and slide and get points decision. He has done that for most of his biggest fights. His record is a perfect record with 29-0-1 where 22 of his wins coming by knockout. You might think “Wait, he’s knocked out lots of people!”. But against higher-level opposition fury rarely gets the knockout.

Strategies for Online Betting on Tyson Fury

Online betting on Fury can be made easy by looking at his opponent. If he is fighting an opponent that isn’t on the same skill level, he has shown that a knock out will come. Betting on a knockout against lower opposition can be rewarding.

When he fights elite-level fighters, the fight usually completes 12 rounds. Making a bet for the distance is good in these cases. Fury has an unbeaten record, so he is usually the favorite in his fights. It is good to put a Moneyline bet on fury because there is the belief that he will win against everyone he fights.

Anthony “AJ” Joshua

Anthony Joshua is a heavy-hitting well-rounded boxer. He holds the IBF, IBO, WBO, WBA world titles, making him the unified heavyweight champion. Joshua is another heavy-handed boxer who gets knockouts in a majority of his fights. AJ has a record of 23-1-0, where 21 of his wins are from knock out, and 2 from decision wins.

He has gone through trials and tribulations with his latest opponent where Joshua was dethroned by massive underdog Andy Ruiz. AJ is a well-polished boxer with a good inside game, where he throws a mean left hook and uppercut. There are lots of highlight reels of AJ knocking out his opponents using his inside game. He also has the ability to box on the outside and get wins this way by going the distance.

Strategies for Online Betting on Anthony Joshua

Anthony Joshua has shown that he has different styles and can knock his opponents out as well as go the distance. Betting online for AJ depends on his opponent once again. AJ has shown that he boxes around the ring when facing smaller quicker fighters. Against this style of an opponent, a money line bet on AJ is good because AJ keeps his distance and wins on points.

If he’s fighting a slower, taller fighter, AJ goes for the knockout win when he gets a chance. He is the type of fighter who sees blood and demolishes his opponent. A lot of AJ recent fights have gone past the 6th round. If you are looking to bet on rounds anything past the 6th round will increase your chances of winning.

Dillian “The Body Snatcher,” Whyte

Dillian Whyte is known for his body punching abilities. He digs those shots into the body to wear his opponent out before he gets a knockout finish. Whyte has a record of 27-1-0, where 18 of his wins come from knockouts. In recent years Whyte has shown the most progression in his boxing abilities.

Whyte is the interim WBC champion and is waiting for his world title shot. They schedule this for the early months of 2021. As it stands Dillian Whyte will face Tyson Fury for the WBC belt, however that could change if Fury loses to his next opponent. Whyte has a long reach for his height, making his jab a good weapon. He doubles his jab up and throws a mean left hook which has knocked out multiple opponents.

Strategies for Online Betting on Dillian Whyte

Dillian Whyte is hard to bet on because he can either go the distance by jabbing a lot or knock you out if he gets the chance. When he faces elite-level fighters, the fights usually go 12 rounds, and he gets a decision win. Dillian Whyte hasn’t lost since 2015 in his fight against Anthony Joshua.

Betting on a decision win when Dillian Whyte faces elite-level fights is a good bet. Another good bet would be late-round stoppages by Whyte as he has stopped during the later portions of the fight.

Signs to Look Out For in Fighters When Betting Online

There are lots of telltale signs you can look into when betting on boxers online. The heavyweight division has some easy to look into signs you can see before the fight starts. These signs can be seen in the weigh-ins and faceoffs. Fighters being nervous and twitching when they face their opponents, or the weight comes in before the fight. You can always look into these things.

Boxers Weight

When a heavyweight boxer comes in heavier than their usual weight, there are a few things that could be going on. He could have trained badly and is overweight. This means he’s not ready to fight. Or he’s packed on the weight to lean on his opponent and tire them during the fight. Fighters do the 2nd option when their opponent is a lot bigger than them. Looking at this can help when you make your online bets.

A boxer’s resume is something to look at. Fighter pad a lot of resumes with low-level fighters to make the boxers look amazing with lots of knockouts. If a boxer has been on a winning streak, he’s more likely to have high confidence during his next fight and go for a winning blow.

These fighters believe they can’t lose, it gives them the confidence that they can win. Vice versa, if the boxer is in a losing streak they are likely to be low on confidence and end up losing the fight. They put a lot of journeymen against quality opposition and end up losing the fight.

Betting on boxing is predictable. There is normally always a heavy favorite and a huge underdog. It’s just how the sport works, there are hardly ever two fighters that are evenly matched.

When it happens, you can find some good odds, because the bookmakers don’t know what will happen. Ensure to check out our top listed online sportsbooks before making your bets and check out our bonuses and promotions section.

Betting on the Premier League

Is the Premier League the Best League?

It’s widely known that the Premier League is the best soccer league in the world. They have some of the best teams playing and they are super competitive. The Premier League has 20 teams, and they rank very closely to one another. This makes the Premier League highly competitive and teams regularly move up and down the league table.

Teams from the Premier League have had a lot of success in European soccer. With teams in the Premier League frequently qualifying and competing at both the Champions League and Europa League. Due to these competitive possibilities, the best players in the world choose to play in the Premier League.

Of course, soccer is a team sport, and a group of high-quality players will always be better than a team with one great player. It is due to this high caliber of teams as a whole that makes Premier League teams some of the best on the planet.

The Top Teams in the Premier League

There is a lot of history with the teams in the Premier League. The league was first made in 1992, where Manchester United was the first winning team. Many other teams came after to win the league such as Chelsea, Manchester City, Arsenal, Blackburn Rovers, and Leicester City. Other teams technically haven’t won the Premier League but have won multiple First Division titles. The current top 5 teams are;

  • Liverpool
  • Manchester City
  • Leicester City
  • Chelsea
  • Manchester United

However, there are other good teams you can bet on as well such as;

  • Tottenham
  • Wolverhampton Wanderers
  • Arsenal
  • Everton
  • Sheffield United

The lower table teams can be good to bet on because you will see regular upsets in the Premier League. There are teams like Aston Villa who returned to the Premier League this season and are trying to prove that they belong. Aston Villa is a team with a lot of history in English soccer and is a team to always keep an eye on even if they are near the bottom of the table.

Betting online on the Premier League can be tricky because the teams have great squad depth, and some of the best players in the world. For instance, Liverpool has arguably the best defender in the world with Virgil van Dijk. Here is some information on some of the best teams in the league and the best online bets you can make on them.

Manchester United

Manchester United is one of the greatest teams in the world. They have won the Premier League 13 times, last winning it in the 2012-2013 season. The team has been declining in form since the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson. Poor player signings and managerial changes have led to the once-great team becoming a shadow of its former self.

The team is bringing players through the academy and trying to build squad depth with homegrown youngsters. They have been having a bad season this year, showing no consistency to their gameplay. Nevertheless, somehow they are in the running for finishing the top 4 in the league. Manchester United have some great players such as Marcus Rashford, Paul Pogba, Harry Maguire, Bruno Fernandes, Mason Greenwood, and Bruno Fernandes.

Betting on Manchester United

Manchester United has shown that they perform well against top teams, beating them this season. They have also shown poor form against the teams lower down the division, losing to many of them. When placing an online bet with Manchester United, it’s good to bet against them when they are playing against mid-table teams. This is because they’ve shown inconsistency all season.

When they play against big teams, it could be a good idea to bet on Manchester United because they will be the underdog. Some of their best goal scorers are injured, so it could be a good idea to bet on them scoring fewer goals rather than more goals.  Another great bet would be to bet on a goal scorer, Marcus Rashford is on top form this season scoring many goals. Mason Greenwood somehow scores in almost every game he plays in.

Liverpool are the current Champions League champions. They beat Tottenham 2-0 during the game in 2019 to secure the title. Liverpool is also the favorite to win the Premier League and the Champions League this season. They are a formidable team with top players on their squad.

No team has beaten Liverpool this season. They are aiming to be the unbeatable team this season from the looks of it. Liverpool has been so good this season they are nearly 22 points ahead of the 2nd team in the table. Liverpool has one of the most formidable attacks in the league, with players such as Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, and Roberto Firmino.

Betting on Liverpool

Placing an online bet on Liverpool is a sure win with their current form. They haven’t lost a game yet, so betting on them to win against any team is a good option. However, the odds may not be great.

Placing a bet on Liverpool scoring over 2 goals is a great option. This is because their attack is amazing. They regularly score 2 or more goals per game but have been scoring 5 goals against some teams this season. These are usually against the weaker teams in the league.

Placing a bet on players to get a yellow card can also be a good option. Players such as Fabiano and  Alexander-Arnold have 5 and 4 yellow cards this season. Because Liverpool is so good, they are likely to get many corner kicks. Placing a bet on the number of corners they will have can be great.

Manchester City

Manchester City is the current Premier League Champion, winning the 2018-2019 season. They are 2nd in the table and are likely to keep their position till the league ends.

Manchester City has had some bad luck this year with their ban from the Champions League for 2 years. This means finishing in 2nd place in the Premier League won’t give them the chance to play in the 2021 and 2022 Champions League. They were also given a $32.5 Million fine because they broke the financial fair play rules. This sets the team back and could affect their performances in the coming games.

A lot of top players won’t want to come to Manchester City because they won’t be playing in the Champions League. This could affect their player transfers for the Premier League. Manchester City have always been 2nd to Manchester United but over the past few years, they’ve edged them. You could argue that Manchester City is the better team now, after winning the league last season.

Betting on Manchester City

The best times to bet on Manchester City are right now. They are in a bad spot at the moment, and you could capitalize on this. Their spirits won’t be at their best after their ban. You could place bets against them when they play against big teams like Tottenham, Liverpool or Leicester City. Even some mid-table teams have a chance.

It’s always fun to bet on the Manchester Derby. In case you didn’t know what the derby is. It’s where Manchester United and Manchester City play against each other. Manchester United won the last Derby in 2019 with a scoreline of 2-1. The derby is always brutal, so it’s a great idea to bet on players getting yellow cards. Especially the defenders on each team.

Leicester City

Leicester City had a dream season in 2015-2016, where they were promoted to the Premier League and won the cup. They made a lot of pundit’s rich that season, mainly those who betted on Leicester City winning the season. During the 2019-2020 season, Leicester City has been exceptional.

They’ve only lost to the top teams this season and have played very well against other teams. They deserve their position on the table and a place in the Champions League for the 2021 season. They have also beaten their record this season with winning 8 consecutive games.

Betting on Leicester City

The season Leicester City are having makes it easy to place bets on them. They are likely to win most of the games they play against lower table teams.

Their next few games in 2020 are against easy opponents, so they are likely to get the wins. Because they are playing against lower table teams, a bet on them scoring 2 or more goals is a great bet to make.

Betting on multiple corners will also be good as they will dominate possession of the ball. Because they will dominate so in these games, the other teams will be frustrated making a  bet on yellow cards and red cards also a good option.

Chelsea has been having a tough season, but they are still in the top part of the table.

They appointed a new manager in Frank Lampard. A former Chelsea and England international player. He is a novice in the managerial world of soccer, and it has shown in some games the team has played. They have been put under a lot of criticism because Lampard doesn’t have a lot of experience as a manager.

Overall, as a squad, Chelsea has some amazing players. They have the likes of Tammy Abraham, Olivier Giroud, N’Golo Kante, Willian, and Pedro. It is a formidable team and with the right guidance, they can beat the best teams in the league.

Betting on Chelsea

Chelsea is still a good team even though they have been having an awkward season. The rest of the games they have left in the season are winnable. Games against Manchester City and Liverpool will be difficult for the team.

They might win these games as they are at the end of the season, and the teams will be tired.  However, their games against Aston Villa, Norwich City, Wolverhampton Wanderers, and Sheffield United are all winnable games. Betting on them to win by 2 goals is a great bet to make against such teams.

The Premier League is the best soccer league in the world. Betting online on the Premier League can excite and give you amazing returns if you bet on the right team and have a bit of luck. XFL Sports Betting: Everything You Need to Know

Here’s why you need to get started with XFL betting

With the beginning of the new decade, there is an endless list of activities and events sports lovers like you should be excited about. There is the Olympics, the Vietnam Grand Prix, and of course, the Super Bowl. But did you know there’s another big event that you should be pumped for?

The return of the XFL

This sports league has managed to seize the attention of many fanatics around the world as it gives viewers the option to sit out of the NFL and to showcase what the future of football has in store. Moreover, betting has never been easier; meaning, you can sit back, relax, and watch your favorite teams battle it out while earning extra income.

In this article, I’m going to tell you all about betting with the XFL.

What Is The XFL?

Short for Xtreme Football League, the XFL has been set to play its first season in 2020. The opening of the first game took place on Saturday, February 8th, and has been steadily growing, and has attracted an average audience of 2.9 Million in its first week.

The eight teams playing are:

  • St. Louis Battlehawks
  • New York Guardians
  • Seattle Dragons
  • Los Angeles WildCats
  • Houston Roughnecks
  • Dallas Renegades
  • D.C. Defenders
  • Tampa Bay Vipers

The XFL was launched by Vince McMahon, a veteran in the industry, who still stands as the CEO of WWE. Additionally, the XFL can be viewed on ABC, ESPN, Fox, Fox Sports 1 as well as Fox Sports 2.

When Did the XFL Start?

What many experts often miss out on when talking about the XFL, is that its original launch was in 2001, but had unexpectedly failed after just one season.

I personally remember the launch of the XFL — I was wearing my San Francisco Demons t-shirt for the premier, but due to poor planning the XFL was short-lived.

Until now…

The Return of The XFL

Currently, the XFL has been exceeding the promises and expectations of its many fans, thanks to McMahon’s plans of bringing forth a more genuine and authentic experience to the sport of football.

The lessons learned prior to the current XFL success is evident in which many of the previous characteristics and traits of the league that made it fail, were much improved in what we see today. One of the more notable changes is that more money is being invested into the up and coming games of the XFL.

Where Is the XFL Today?

Sadly, the league has decided to end its first season early, due to the coronavirus outbreak that took many citizens by surprise as of late. This shows that even though the XFL has been hitting many successes as of late, there are still some aspects it isn’t in control of.

Nevertheless, the XFL has been doing relatively well in terms of viewership, and TV ratings, as well as the warm reception by sports fans around the world.

XFL Expansion

As of now, the expansion doesn’t seem to happen anytime soon. Nonetheless, as more sports fans and supporters flock towards the XFL, we might be seeing expansions in the coming few years.

Some of the few cities that the XFL might be looking to expand into would be Nevada, Illinois, Nebraska, Michigan, Toronto, and Oakland, due to the cities’ huge fanbases, and unique stadiums.

What Does the Future Hold For The XFL?

If the recent success of the XFL is a testament to anything, it should be that it will indeed prosper with viewership. Purely based on viewership, the XFL has reached the goals and expectations of both fans and investors, and at this rate, with enough money to fund the league, and supporters to back the players, we can only be seeing more breakthroughs and records the XFL will accomplish.

What this means for fans is more expansions into different cities as well as more mainstream support of the league despite its downfall in 2001.

Why bet on the XFL?

One of the main appeals of XFL sports betting is the sheer adrenaline that rushes through your veins every game, hoping that your favorite team brings home the win. Furthermore, XFL sports betting isn’t all about luck; it is a game of skill and patience, that if done correctly, could provide for some extra savings.

Betting for many has allowed them to earn thousands and even millions for the most profound few, such as the acclaimed figure, Billy Walters, who is mostly known as a professional gambler, that attained a net worth of USD $100 million alongside his other business ventures. Since the XFL has only just launched, you can get on at the ground floor and develop a strategy before any other betters.

XFL betting also allows viewers at home to be immersed in the sport and also provides a plethora of entertainment benefits and fun to be had, all while earning money. And when you’ve struck gold betting, you can be thrilled with your newly developed betting strategy (or luck!) and indulge when splurging, knowing you’ve successfully made profit predicting the unthinkable.

Should I Bet on the XFL or NFL?

For years, the NFL has been the go-to for football sports betting, due to the popularity of the league and the reputation it has gained over the years.

Now is the best time to capitalize on betting on the XFL as the league has only just begun, and many rules and processes have yet to be implemented, meaning betters can take advantage of those will it lasts.

Now is the best time to bet on the XFL and gain an advantage while bookies figure out more procedures to be set, and strategies aren’t as saturated. Furthermore, brokers are seeking to get your attention to use their service, with the coming of the new league, meaning bigger, more competitive payout profits!

In my own opinion, with extensive research and from what the analytics show us, betting on the XFL allows for sports fans like you and me to achieve better payouts and a chance to better amplify our strategies when coming into the first few seasons.

What Sets XFL Sports Betting Apart?

One of the main selling points of XFL sports betting is how easy it is to learn. Football has been around for decades and currently stands as the most popular sports people bet on, meaning free online guides and communities that are widely available & ready to help you if you come across any adversity.

The chances are, you already are familiarized with the sport, and this gives you the upper hand when compared to lesser-known sports where you would have to completely study the different strategies and which teams to bet on.

The Future of XFL Sports Betting

Betting has long been associated with football, and if history were to predict anything, it would be that the XFL sports betting as a whole will increase at a tremendous rate once it becomes more mainstream.

This is due to the fact that millions are already familiarized with how football betting works, and the XFL provides a great alternative to NFL betting.

Therefore, investing time and effort into studying how games work, will definitely work out better for you in the future when XFL sports betting reaches new heights.

Sports Betting with Blockchain – The Future of Betting is Here

Here’s how the same technology that powers Bitcoin is changing online sports betting

The earliest occurrences of gambling date back to the Paleolithic period, with the first set of dice being traced back to Mesopotamia in 2300 BC. Since then and through to contemporary times, betting has been a large part of our society — a mixture of bursts of joy when beating impossible odds and bitter sadness as victory slips away when you’re having bad luck.

Everything that can have different outcomes can be the target of a bet. Sports have had a tradition of betting on the outcomes of matches, making the competition inside the courts and arenas also extend to the audience, building extra excitement around the events.

Many companies have built solid businesses around betting and, while some transactions and bets are uneventful, stories of fraud and scams still exist. Gamblers, especially online gamblers, have to be careful with the companies they bet with.

That’s where we come in and help you find the best online betting platforms.

But, sometimes, bets turn out bad and the problems in the betting software systems are to blame. In September 2019 in the United States, a man laid down a $110 bet on an NFL game. After he won the bet, the bookmaker FanDuel refused to pay the $82,000 prize, claiming that “the automated system mistakenly generated the odds”.

After the incident got negative media coverage, the amount ended up being paid in full. But not all these issues become public and, in some cases, bettors may end up being at a disadvantage against bookmakers.

However, a new technological advancement might be the answer to some of these problems. Commonly known for supporting cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin and Ethereum, Blockchain technology has multiple applications across industries and the sports betting industry is one of them. The advantages seem to both benefit bookmakers and bettors alike, with new services being created to accommodate the potential demand for this new way of placing bets.

The Bitcoin whitepaper, published in October 2008 by Satoshi Nakamoto, originally hailed a model of a peer-to-peer electronic cash system. The blockchain was created and developed over the years based on this paper and was largely a low-profile endeavor until 2017, when Bitcoin prices skyrocketed, leading to a worldwide craze that made instant millionaires overnight. The high volatility of the currency also dictated that these victories would be short-lived, with a major crash happening in 2018.

Independently of these facts, the technology behind blockchain (the infrastructure that makes Bitcoin transactions possible) has many applications, and many more are still being explored. In order to fully understand how blockchain can impact the sports betting industry, we’ll start with a general outline of how blockchain works.

What is the blockchain?

Defined as a “distributed, decentralized, public ledger”, blockchain allows for greater transparency, security, and reduced transaction fees when applied to sports betting. The concept can seem very complicated at first, so let’s take it step-by-step:

  1. Think of this “ledger” as having multiple pages (or blocks). Each of these pages holds transactions, or bets, that each bettor is betting in different events around the world;
  2. As you place a bet on a football match, for instance, your intention is registered in a block and made public in this transaction ledger;
  3. You are now in business;
  4. This agreement and thousands of others are added to a new block. Each block has a unique code, generated according to the principles of cryptography, that ensures these blocks will not be altered in any way, by anyone;
  5. This ledger is public and accessible to everyone, in the interest of accountability; but don’t worry, your personal information isn’t compromised, only your bets are displayed;
  6. Since setting the bet is done securely using a network of computers belonging to many different parties, the processing isn’t done solely in the bookmaker’s internal network. It is done transparently.

The advantages of the sports betting blockchain

But why is this technology suitable for sports betting? Here’s why:

Since all transactions are public in the ledger, it is easier to keep track of bets and prevent them from being mishandled in internal networks run by bookmakers. This basically means that everyone agrees to what all of the numbers are so no one can change them for their own personal gain.

Transparency leads to accountability. All bets are processed correctly and quickly, and payouts will not be affected by archaic systems and their inherent limitations, or dodgy rules hidden away in terms of service that users seldom read.

Closely related to what we said above, the bets won’t be handled by a central bookmaker’s software. By relying on smart contracts (a bit of code that ensures that the conditions set by you and the bookmaker are followed) there is no need to run the bet through an internal network. Everything is done within the blockchain, which also reduces the individual load of the bookmaker’s systems.

The principles of cryptography and algorithms that enforce security on each step of the process allow you to rest at ease, knowing that your bet was accepted and that the conditions will not be suddenly voided in the middle of the process. Also, in areas where gambling is restricted or prohibited, bettors turn to illegal bookmakers, usually with devastating results. By setting everything through the blockchain, these risks are avoided.

Smart bets

The betting industry relies on expert advice to guide betting trends and strategies, usually representing extra costs for bookmakers and bettors alike. Since everyone is rewarded for contributing with information to the blockchain, and all the transactions are public, new algorithms can be created to process the data and identify new betting information, allowing people to copy bets or bookmakers to develop new products, for instance.

Powered by cryptocurrency

Besides providing extra anonymity (and discarding the need for lengthy identity checks at bookmaker shops), cryptocurrencies also offer lower payment processing costs and allow you to easily bet across borders in international sports leagues and tournaments without the hassle of different currencies and conditions. There are many kinds of cryptocurrencies out there, with different sets of rules, advantages, and opportunities.

Better access to your funds

In particularly busy weekends or during tournaments, where many events are taking place at the same time or within short periods of one another, having access to your funds is key. Currently, bookmakers might take some time before making your money available again.

In this new system with cryptocurrency, you can withdraw your winnings faster and reinvest them quicker, which not only makes it more convenient for the bettor but also less costly for the bookmaker in administrative terms.

The industry wins (too)

This won’t bring benefits to the bettors only, as most of the heavy lifting work that bookmakers do today is going to be handled by the blockchain in terms of processing and security.

As a result, new players in this industry that wish to build a betting business will have better opportunities to enter the market, and existing companies will be able to invest more funds in promotions and improved user experience for the customers.

This is not limited to national betting companies. As the internet has no borders, the international betting market has an opportunity to flourish and become more attractive, and companies will start competing to offer the best experience to their customers, increasing the value of the service provided.

The speed and reliability of the blockchain, coupled with reduced costs, could make the betting industry grow dramatically in the coming years, also considering the boom of new betting realms such as esports.

It might seem like a lot of information, but the benefits of switching to this new infrastructure will make investing your time worth it in the long run, as it will provide a better betting experience and more freedom to place bets where and when you want to.

In conclusion

Many things have happened since 2300 BC. Gods, wars, major social changes – the thrill of betting survived them all, and nothing will stop the fun of gambling as we move towards the future. What our ancestors didn’t imagine was how much better things would get in this realm with all the betting categories that were invented and the ease that the internet would introduce to the process.

The full range of applications of blockchain technology and cryptocurrencies might still not be fully researched, but, as far as sports betting is concerned, it seems that despite the odds, both bookmakers and bettors stand to win in the long term.

Sports Betting with Blockchain FAQ

  • Do I have to use Bitcoin when using blockchain?

No. Think of Blockchain as a database. Bitcoin uses blockchain technology as a database, but it could also use any other kind of database. Some of the websites we mention may accept Bitcoin, but you usually don’t have to use it.
  • Will using blockchain change the way I make sports betting online?

You don’t have to do anything differently if your bookmaker uses blockchain. It’s all “under the hood” and something you don’t have to worry about?
  • Will all sports betting be done with blockchain in the future?

Blockchain technology is exciting and computer science professionals have long debates (and even scientific research papers) arguing for or against using blockchain. Unless you own a betting system of your own, you really don’t need to know about all the technical things behind blockchain. Just go out and have fun!
